Brief History of Mandsaur
Mandsaur city with its long impressive history is a major city in Madhya Pradesh . Be it ancient periood or nedieval period or modern period Mandasaur has seeen every phases og Indian history. the place finds its mention during Mahabharata period.This historical place is famous for its two great monolith pillars recording a victory of Yasodharman, king of Malwa, in 528. Also it served as a seat of power during Gurjara Pratihara period (c. 836–910) . During medieval period and after the decline of Delhi Sultanate the city came to be ruled by Dilawar Khan Ghauri , the governor of the Malwa province. In 1401 Dilawar Khan took the title of Sultan of Malwa in 1401. He was succeeded by his son Hoshang Shah. How Mandasaur got its name ?
Mandasaur City got its name when two of the villages Marh and Saur were merged to create the name of the city. The town was known as Dashpur in ancient times.It is also said that the name originated from Mandodri, wife of Ravana. And the ancient name Dashpur was named after her husband Dashanand, the other name of Ravana.

Mandsaur city experiences dry climate except in south-west monsoon. From March to the middle of June it is hot.Thereafter the south west monsoon season starts and continues up to about the middle of September. The average annual rainfall in the District is 786.6 mm. Cold season starts from December to February. In terms of temperature, the District has rapid increase in temperatures after February May is generally the hottest month and January is the coldest month.

Pashupatinath Temple
Pashupatinath Temple is a Hindu temple situated on the banks of the Shivna River. It is one of the famous shrines in Mandsaur . Lord Shiva in the form of Lord Pashupatinath is the principal deity here. The beautiful and unique eight faces Shivlingas of Lord Shiva marks the identity and popularity of this temple. The shrine has four doors in four directions.It is said that every monsoon the water level in the Shivna River raises to touch the holy Shiv Ling of Lord Shiva. Taxakeshawar or Takhaji is a place of religious and historical importance in Mandsaur district. The temple is named after the King Taxak, who is worshiped here as Taxakeshawar but the local people call him Takhaji. The place has a statue of Nagaraja Taxak. The shrine is situated at a distance of 22 km from Bhanpura town on Hinglajgarh road. It is located on a most romantic spot from village Navali situated on the table land at the foot of which Bhanpura lies.
The shrine has a beautiful water pool full of many varieties of fishes. The source of water in it is a hot water spring which naturally falls from a height of about 200 feet. The river Takhali at a distance of about 10 km from Chambal River that flows to Jhalawar in Rajasthan falls into this water pool and forms the water fall.

Mandsaur Fort is situated on the border of Malwa and Mewar of Mandsaur District. The fort was built by Hushang Shah Gori, the successor of Dilawar Khan Gauri, the Sultan of Malwa.
